Island Organics was first conceived in 1999 by Ben and Blair Ripple. The dream was to help disenfranchised small farmers throughout the humid tropics with the development of a scale-conscious model of sustainable agriculture. With the aid of John Hardy, a long-time Bali expatriate, the ideas became a reality. Starting on just under 1/4 acre of steeply terraced, long defunct coffee jungle, the first seeds were sown... potato, carrot and sweet corn plants began popping up amidst towering jungle weeds that seemed to grow overnight. That first harvest gave us all an incredible swell of inspiration. Digging for the smooth-skinned potatoes in the misty morning cold of the Jati Luwih farm cemented the vision in all of our minds... at all costs we would help bring sustainability BACK to these farmers!

In 2004 Island Organics expanded with plots in neighboring Baturiti where we now work together with local farmers. Working alongside the owners of the land, Island Organics cooperates with local farmers and teaches organic farming methods and models. Using the priciples of organic farming, Island organics achieves the highest quality of vegetables and produce while maintaining a balance with the delicate tropical soil of Bali.
